Little Kulala is an acclaimed desert retreat, situated on a large private reserve, bordering the Namib Naukluft Park, in the heart of the Namib. The camp offers magnificent views of the famous red dunes of Sossusvlei, magnificent mountainous scenery and vast open plains.

Eleven climate-controlled, thatched and canvas chalets or Kulalas ('Kulala' in the Namibian language Oshiwambo means 'to sleep') with en-suite bathrooms and showers are set on wooden platforms to provide maximum airflow. As an option for outdoor enthusiasts, bedrolls can be moved to the rooftop to sleep under the stars from a private star gazing platform. The main lodge, with décor inspired from North Africa, has a lounge, pub, dining area and plunge pool, and offers a wrap-around veranda that overlooks the waterhole and provides a perfect location to view and photograph the desert sunset. Rooftop open air area for dinner under the stars also part of the experience.

Rooms:
The camp comprises eleven luxury suites or 'kulalas' on elevated decks which allow maximum airflow. Each unit has a huge bedroom and sitting area as well as a bathroom with an outside shower area. The kulalas are encircled by a verandah with a small plunge pool and a shaded and generously cushioned sala. The rooms and verandahs have unobstructed views of the desert and are completely private. A staircase leads to a flat rooftop - the ideal setting for some secluded evening stargazing. The Little Kulala staff will even put out a bedroll here, if you wish to sleep under the stars.
The rooms are climate controlled and have mini bars, inside showers and an outside shower, Tea and coffee facilities and bathrobes are provided.

Early morning guided game drives to the spectacular dunes take place through a private gate on the Tsauchab River. Game drives and walks are also offered on the private reserve with incredible views, desert game and smaller desert fauna and flora. Another option is early morning ballooning, beginning at first light; the 60-90minute balloon safari offers a truly unique experience to soar silently above the magnificent sand dunes and desert, with a champagne breakfast being served at your landing site.

Food & Wine:
Meals are served in the spacious dining room in the main area of the lodge. Guests are treated a variety of fine desert cuisines. An early breakfast is served for guests participating in sunrise activities like balloon rides or climbing the dunes at dawn. High tea is served at 4pm, with a selection of delectable pastries. Sundowners on the verandah are a perfect way to end the evening and reflect on the activities on the day, before a sumptuous supper.

Location:
Situated south of the Sesriem gate to Sossusvlei lies the private 2 100 hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve, the closest reserve to Sossusvlei itself. Little Kulala is in a prime location on the western side of the reserve. It offers magnificent dune scenery to the west and rugged Namib mountainous escarpment to the north and east with grassy plains. Little Kulala is located on the dry Auab River bed and has some of the design features of the Kulala Desert, only smaller.
